Thrift Store Finds & How I Used Them

Hello.

I went on a little spontaneous thrift store trip with some friends and wasn't expecting to find so many finds (4 to be exact). Of course, the one thing I went to look for they didn't have, but the thrift store always provides.

Thrifting can be an awesome way to be creative and have unique items while doing less harm to our planet. It's a win-win situation.

Here are the little goodies I found!

Floral Cake Pan

So, I'm not much of a baker, but lately, I've been dipping my toes into it. So far, cakes are just about the only things I can bake. And muffins.

For the past few years, I've been bringing dessert to the family holidays. There isn't too much of a difference in making a simple cake, so I'm going to share with you my favorite cream cheese frosting recipe. It's a little less sweet and not as thick as normal cream cheese frosting which is why I LOVE IT.

Recipe: Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients

8 oz. of softened Neufhcâtel cream cheese (not sticks, preferably the spreadable boxes)

1 stick of butter (1/2 cup, unsalted and softened)

4 cups of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon of salt

  1. Take your butter and cream cheese and place it in a bowl. Whisk until smooth.

  2. Add vanilla extract and salt. Stir.

  3. Slowly add powdered sugar while stirring until well combined.

  4. Enjoy! :)

Ramekin

I wasn't sure what this type of dish was called. I just know it's used in creme brule, and I LOVE creme brule. But, since I don't have a blow torch, I decided to try and make a mini omelette.

Usually, when I try to make eggs in a pan, they're often flat or get burned so I was trying to find a new way to make tasty eggs. It's hard to mess up eggs, but it's even harder to make tasty delicious eggs.

Recipe: Self-Serving Omelette

Ingredients

Salted butter

2 eggs

2 tablespoons of milk

Mozzarella cheese (however much you want)

2-3 cherry tomatoes

Salt and pepper

  1. Heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. Take your butter (a stick would work best) and coat the ramekin so the eggs don't stick

  3. Crack your eggs into a bowl and add your milk. Whisk.

  4. Sprinkle cheese, salt and pepper into the bowl. You can add whatever else you'd like such as spinach, tomatoes or even cooked meat to add flavor!

  5. Pour your egg mix into the ramekin.

  6. Put the ramekin in the oven and cook for 20 minutes. Check to make sure your eggs are fully cooked.

  7. Let it cool and enjoy :)

Mason Jar with a Latched Lid

I just had to have it as soon as I saw this jar. A glass mason jar with a cute fruit design. I thought..maybe I could make my own juice. I'm also thinking about making my own pickles sometime. But, I decided that instead of another recipe, I could give you a tip for your veggies.

Have you ever bought vegetables and they seem to go bad or mushy quickly? Well, I found that the best way to keep your carrots and celery fresh is by keeping them in a glass jar filled with water. I know it seems that wouldn't work because it's "too easy" but I've been able to keep my carrots fresh for so much longer, which means I can use them to make more recipes!

Bamboo Cutting Board

Having a good cutting board makes all the difference in the world in the kitchen. Having good knives does too. This one was just so little and perfect for a charcuterie board.

I have been obsessed with Brie cheese lately. I'm not a cheese expert, but I have been exploring different types of charcuterie mixes and this one is a simple board that I think most people would have these ingredients around their house.

Brie Charcuterie

  • Brie Cheese (soft ripened)

  • Strawberry Jam

  • Crackers (these are Toll House with sea salt)

  • Kosher Dill Pickles

  • Mixed Nuts (I prefer almonds and cashews)

Of course, you can play around with it and find flavors you like. This one I think is super simple and yummy if you want to eat some brie cheese (or any cheese) that you might have in your fridge but maybe you don't want to buy expensive ingredients or go to the store.

I hope this inspires you to try and find new things at your local thrift store. It saves money, helps the planet and supports local businesses! You also will have unique items that you often can't find in a store. Go with a friend or a solo trip. I have many fun memories with friends at thrift stores and I hope you will too.

Keep Exploring :)
